ESL Class - Innovative Ways to Learn English

The English as a Second Language class at Pamlico Community College is not all reading and writing. It's about empowering individuals and making them feel confident when speaking and communicating with people outside their native language.
The current ESL class consists of individuals from Mexico, Russia, China, Peru and the Philippines. Their English levels range from beginner to advanced, but all want to progress to become fluent in conversation, reading and writing. To achieve these goals, class content varies from traditional language arts classes to facials. A recent class was led by Ling Wilkinson, a student who recently moved to Pamlico County from China. Ling's profession in her home country was cosmetology. Under her instruction, the class prepared a recipe for a facial that consisted of cucumber, egg white, milk, flour and honey. This real life application of what the students have been learning combined basic skills, presentation, and fun.
Future classes will be led by different students highlighting their occupations. Come join us or let your neighbors know we're here!
ESL classes offered at PCC Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. All levels, all languages welcome.
