The Academic Library

The college library provides access for browsing and selection to a broad collection of books and other printed and non-printed materials.

Monthly featured books and films are displayed in the Library and announced on Campus Cruiser and GroupWise. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to offer suggestions on books and other library services.

Faculty can place books/materials on reserve and are subject to different checkout procedures.  Reference books require special approval.

Most books can be checked out for a period of three weeks and may be renewed twice.  A fine will be levied when the books are late.  A replacement cost is charged for lost books and materials.

CCLINC -  Community College Libraries in North Carolina

In addition to the over 20,000-book collection at the College, students have access to over one million books through CCLINC. CCLINC is a cooperative agreement between 47 community colleges in the North Carolina Community College System. Pamlico Community College has other borrowing cooperative agreements with East Carolina University, Mount Olive College, Pamlico County Public Library and Pugh Teacher Resource Center.

Students may also call, fax or e-mail requests for books not found in CCLINC by contacting the Evening Library Technician, Erlinda Leggett, eleggett@pamlicocc.edu.

Remote access to CCLINC and reference assistance is available to all students, faculty and staff around the clock.

NCLIVE * Your Virtual Library

Students, faculty, staff and community patrons have access to NCLIVE
(www.nclive.org), an online access to over 6,000 full text periodicals, journals, newspapers and e-books. In addition, access is provided through NCLIVE to Learning Express Library for test preparation in a wide assortment of subjects to include job seeking skills, grammar for writing, math, reading and comprehension, resume and interview skills, GED preparation including Spanish instruction. Practice tests are provided for cosmetology exams, ACT civil service, GED, SAT and more.

Community Outreach

Mini-workshops are provided for students, faculty and community patrons as a cultural enrichment to the arts.  Efforts are made to collaborate with local individuals, civic groups, the Pamlico County Public Library and other public library groups to provide programs by both visual and performing artists, authors and reading groups.

Media Services

Audiovisual materials and equipment are available for student use within the library.  Faculty and staff can check out equipment for use in the classroom.

Computer Access

Students have access to 16 computers with a high-speed Internet connection.  These computers provide access to online card catalogs, periodicals, journals and newspaper full text articles, the Learning Library Express of test preparation and an assortment of computer applications ranging from math tutorials to medical terminology to job seeking skills.  Students can use the library computers to check email and communicate with instructors when taking distance learning courses through Campus Cruiser.

The library has a room for students, faculty and community patrons to use for viewing satellite video conferences, web-casting, telecourses, practicing PowerPoint presentation individually or for groups.  The room is reserved for GED testing all day on Tuesdays.  Library patrons can schedule use of this room by contacting any staff member of the Division of Learning Resources.

Patrons must follow the Pamlico Community College’s computer usage policy and guidelines posted in the library.  Computers are available for students and community patrons who are 16 or older with priority given to PCC students.    Computers are available from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday unless otherwise posted.

The dean of the Division of Learning Resources also serves as one of the College Information Technology contacts, and chairs the College Technology Planning Committee.

Study Lab

The Study Lab is a quiet room available for work on class assignments, distance learning coursework and for tutoring.  The room in furnished with five computer workstations with headsets and access to the Internet and printing.   This room is for quiet study only.

The Integrated Learning Center (ILC)

The ILC contains a large selection of self-instructional materials for flexible, individual study.  Those students requiring assistance with basic subjects can participate in non-credit study.  Computerized tutorials are available.

Tutoring Resource Services

The ILC provides a centralized tutor resource service matching students with specific tutors.  Students can contact any staff member in the Division of Learning Resources to arrange for tutoring.  Prospective tutors are encouraged to contact the Dean of the Division of Learning Resources. 

GED Testing

GED testing is administered on campus and at the Pamlico Correctional Institution.  GED students are required to achieve a minimum score of 500 on each pre-test before being allowed to take the official GED tests.  Dates and times of testing are posted in the library.  The fee to take the GED test is $7.50 and must be paid prior to taking any part of the GED tests.

The High School Diploma Equivalency is awarded in graduation ceremonies by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges after students have successfully passed all five of the GED tests.  GED diplomas are mailed to students by the GED Testing Division of North Carolina Community Colleges.

The center for GED study is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. unless otherwise posted. Summer hours may vary and are posted in the library.

GED classes are provided on and off campus through the Division of Continuing Education.
