About PCC's Cultural and Life Enrichment Program

  • Cultural & Life Enrichment are designed to promote personal growth and life enrichment. This may include courses in leisure activities, non-vocational skill development, learning a new language, discovering a new talent, arts & crafts, media techniques, wellness activities and much more.

 

Spring 2018 Schedule

 

 

BEGINNING WOOL SPINNING INTO YARN

Instructor: Shirley Thobe

Tuesdays, 2:00pm – 5:00pm

February 20th & 27th, 2018 (2 classes)

Learn about the properties and preparations of sheep’s wool and spinning the wool into yarn. Students will learn about the equipment needed to work with fiber and the use of a spinning wheel to make the yarn. By class end you will have made a 2-ply skein of yarn. Spinning wheels for use and all materials are provided. $50.00 (two 3 hour classes) space limited.

MACHINE QUILTING

Instructor: Karen Dodd

Thursdays 1:00pm – 4:00pm

January 18th – February 15th, 2018 (5 classes)

March 15th – April 12th, 2018 (5 classes)

Individuals can decide on possible and unique projects i.e. bags & purses, table runners, baby quilt, sweat shirt jacket etc., using various quilt patterns & techniques. If you enjoy the company of others while learning - this is your class!

POETRY WRITING FOR EVERYONE!

Instructor: Claire Pittman

Goals for this class: to sharpen writing skills and to have fun in the process! You will learn how to develop your creativity, study a variety of techniques, engage in numerous exercises to kick-start your poem and receive feedback on your work in a supportive atmosphere.

TRADITIONAL CERAMIC PROGRAM

Instructor: Barb Drexler

Students will learn ceramic terms and the use of assorted ceramic tools.

Each student will complete 4 projects using various ceramic finishes on each piece. This class is offered to both beginners and experienced individuals.

WINTER BIRDING

Instructor: Sheryl McNair

This is an exciting time of the year when beautiful waterfowl return from their northern breeding grounds to winter here with resident and migrant songbirds as well as many hawks and owls.

First class will meet in the PCC Johnson Building at 9:00am for a slide show, discussion of birding optics and techniques with a short field trip afterwards. Subsequent classes will be held in the field with early morning meeting times.

SPRING BIRDING

Instructor: Sheryl McNair

This is another exciting time of year when the resident and returning birds ramp up for the nesting season. Viewing capabilities include numerous species in full breeding plumage i.e. the breathtaking warblers and other songbirds that migrate here from the tropics and fill the environment with songs of love. Busy birds of all categories are promised.

First class will meet in the PCC Johnson Building at 9:00am for a slide show, discussion of Spring migration, birding optics and techniques with a short field trip afterwards. Subsequent classes will be held in the field with early morning meeting times.

BEGINNING & INTERMEDIATE GOLF

Instructor: Terry Bobbin, PGA Professional

Players will learn the basic rules in the game of golf.

The proper techniques for successful Driving, Chipping and Putting.

The last lessons will consist of the actual play of golf holes.

Students will be rewarded with a complimentary 9 holes of Golf Certificate upon successful completion of the class.

REFIT® - Free!

Instructors: Yolanda Cristiani and Kacy Forbes

REFIT® is a workout program that is structured around cardio-dance movements, toning and flexibility, strength training and stretching.  REFIT® uses value positive, energetic, and family-friendly music in multiple genres and is designed for all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels.

ROADMAP TO WELLNESS

Instructor: Michele Musella BSN, MSN, Doctor of Integrative Medicine 

A series of interactive discussions about health and creating mind, body and spirit balance. Sessions include information on tools available to achieve wellness using various therapies and natural healing strategies i.e. Aromatherapy, Acupressure, Ayurveda etc.

ROADMAP This class provides an overview and explanation of the wellness therapies offered in this series.

AROMATHERAPY The art, science and use of ESSENTAIL OILS with In depth information on therapeutic kit building for healing as well as hands on blending and product creation.                                                  

January 18th, 25th & February 1st, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, $65.00 (3 classes).

 

VIBRATIONAL HEALING This class is a review of the use and health promotion of BACH FLOWER ESSENCES, COLOR, GEMSTONE & HOMEOPATHIC therapies.

ACUPRESSURE & AURICULAR ACUPRESSURE This class entails the mapping of Meridian Lines on the body & ear providing guidance to massage points to treat specific health issues.

AUYURVEDA An ancient Indian system PREVENTIVE MEDICINE addressing health and dietary issues pertaining to each DOSHA.

INTRODUCTION TO REIKI An informative peek into the practice and history of Reiki including an abbreviated treatment.

**Cultural and Life Enrichment classes are self-supporting and require a minimum number of students with fees being non-refundable after the first class. All classes require pre-registration and are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment.**
